Shopping for the short set

Shopping for the short set Posted on October 4, 20081 Comment

There were so many useful comments on this post that I wanted to share them again for everyone else to see. The crux of my dilemma is that I’ve lost enough weight that I’ve dropped a size in pants, but I hope to lose enough weight in the next month or two that I can drop one more size. I’m short, so most of my pants need hemming, but I didn’t want to spend the money.

I did end up finding two very cheap pairs at Old Navy that were short enough that they’ll get me by (and I had a coupon for 15% off). But had that not worked, I would have definitely tried some of these options:

  • Mel has the same height issue as I do, and she suggested just using safety pins or making a faux hem using a quick X-stitch or two.
  • Tutu Girl suggested selling my old pants at a consignment shop (or perhaps eBay) to make a little bit of cash to spend on some new pants.
  • Emily suggested using hem tape — which you should be able to find at any craft store — which allows you to easily rehem a pair of pants as many times as you need.
  • And several others suggested their favorite stores to find cheap pants: Target, Ann Taylor and Old Navy. I’ll go ahead and throw Gap in there too.

  1. I’m short too and the hem tape works well. I’ve even used black duct tape in a pinch with the added bonus that you can wash it.
