Get excited about giveaways Posted on December 9, 200810 Comments

Tis better to give than receive, right?

Well if that’s the case, Jamie Lovely is doing it right. She’s having an awesome holiday giveaway, chock full of cool items from several of the websites she features at her shopping blog, Oh! How Lovely Shops. She’s not saying exactly what she’s giving away, but because she has a knack for finding the best sites on Etsy, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Enter the Oh How Lovely Shops Big Holiday Giveaway!

And while we’re on the subject of giveaways, I’ve got one myself. Remember Lisha Lynn Mineral Cosmetics? I’m offering a $25 gift certificate for Lisha Lynn products provided by owner Alicia Redding as a holiday gift to you, my Modern Friends, for being so wonderful! This will give you a great opportunity to try out her products.

To enter, leave a comment on this post about your silliest makeup experience: Were you attached to an awful color of eye shadow as a teenager? Did you once use your mom’s lipstick as body paint? If you absolutely cannot think of anything, then just tell me your favorite makeup product. You have to tell me something about yourself in the comment, or you’re not counted toward the drawing.

You can get two bonus entries by either blogging or Twittering about the giveaways and then posting the link to your blogpost/tweet in a comment on this post.

I’ll leave the contest open until midnight on Dec. 16. Lucydog will supervise the drawing at Random.org.

  1. Ooooh I love giveaways! For the longest time as a teenager I wore only revlon “frosted snow” and “baby blues” eye shadow. The white colour (not a sheer light color – clown white) up to my brow bone and a sweep of blue over my lids. Not a good look – even in the 80’s!

And another time (no excuse cuz I was a grown up) in a made rush to an event I was doing my make up in the back of a cab and used eyeliner instead of lipliner!

  2. I entered in Oh! How Lovely! Love some of that jewelry.

My worst makeup experience – buying colors of the moment. example 1 – still have a MAC green color – both the shadow and the eyeshadow cream. 7 years and counting and only used a handful of times…

  3. My strangest make up experience comes from when I was pretty new to the world of make up and wanted to multitask my makeup. I decided lipstick could double for blush! I tried this for about a week, trying harder each day to smooth it and blend it more. Thankfully I gave this up quickly!

  4. I won a hairdo and makeup for my junior prom from a giveaway. I went and got the makeup and looked like a complete whore so I went home and took it all off.

  5. I (rather recently, actually) bought a multi-pack of blue eyeshadow… they’re absolutely beautiful colors, but no way can I ever wear them without looking like a clown! So they’re doomed to the bottom of my makeup bag until I next think I can pull it off!

And I blogged about it, too!

  6. I hope I’m not too late for this giveaway! I can’t think of any horrible make-up experiences so I’ll just say my favorite make-up product is my covergirl line exact eyeliner. It’s wonderful! Stays put for the whole day 🙂

  7. I’ve tended to steer clear of makeup since a former friend did mine once upon a time for a wedding. She swore I looked great but I thought I looked like a tramp and have never really given it another go-round since then.

  8. I’ve been bad with blogs lately but this contest lured me back.

I have always loved makeup but I grew up in a conservative Catholic household, and I went to a conservative Catholic school. The only girls who wore makeup to school in my grade were slutty, so I am glad after all that my mother didn’t allow it for me.

BUT, once my friends Jackie and Julie and I accompanied our dads to bowling night at the local small town bowling alley. Our dads wouldn’t be the types to notice any changes in appearances (thanks to beer, I think), so we all scrounged through Julie’s older sister’s makeup bag (stolen for the evening of course) like it was filled with buried treasure…in the bowling alley ladies bathroom no less. And we reemerged blue eyed, pink lipped little wonders. We all wore matching black off-the-shoulder sweaters (I had to borrow one from Jackie because such an item was certainly not allowed by my mother) and strutted around that alley like owned the place.

I don’t think any of the 30-50 year old men in the place noticed. If they did, then…creepy.

  9. Yay contest! When I was in middle school, I was in a competitive dance troupe. We had to wear stage makeup that made us look like pre-teen hookers, and we had to show up to competitions with it already on. I can’t tell you how many times I had to go in to grocery stores and drugstores and the like with all that makeup on while my mom ran errands on the way to my dance competitions.
