My reward for making it through that crazy week last week was a date with my guy and banjo master Bela Fleck. Ok, I know what many of you are thinking … ‘Banjo? How positively Tennessee redneck of you.’ That is just the notion Bela is trying to dispel.

The banjo originates in Africa, and Bela toured the continent a few years back to trace its roots and play with some of the best African musicians. It sparked an album and a documentary.

Bela brought several of the musicians and their traditional African instruments featured in the documentary with him for his show in Knoxville and subsequent tour. The music is amazing. I wish I could describe it to you, but I wouldn’t do it justice. All I can recommend is that you check out the album or the documentary.

If the show wasn’t enough to end the week on the right note, we topped it off with a late-night trip to Sonic. Can’t get much better than that.
