Simple wishes, simple effort

Simple wishes, simple effort Posted on August 24, 20093 Comments

Cool People Care shared a link the other day that caught my eye, and I wanted to pass it on to you. It’s a nonprofit in New Jersey called One Simple Wish that’s in the business of granting simple wishes to people in need (I’m sure you could have figured that one out on your own) that cost roughly between $5-$100. The wishes include things as basic as haircuts and school supplies AND things that aren’t necessarily basic or even necessary but could bring a little light to someone’s life — like say a trip to Six Flags or an iPod.

I tried to do a little research on the organization, but it’s fairly new so Guidestar doesn’t have much to offer. From what I understand, the organization only grants wishes through other established nonprofit organizations, and it mostly serves organizations located in New Jersey.

What I love about this organization is the simple part. These are basic things that you and I don’t usually think twice about. It’s not expensive to provide. It doesn’t take any time.

The other thing I love about this is it could be easily replicated. All it takes is picking up the phone, calling one of your local nonprofits and asking, ‘What do you need? What do you want? What can I help with?’ It’s a notion that I think we easily forget. I know I do. We wait until there’s a drive of some sort or a fundraiser or something when we could easily do something today.

Ok, end soapbox. Everyone have a lovely day!
