Some green-tinted housekeeping

Some green-tinted housekeeping Posted on March 10, 201010 Comments

Two things …

1. I did actually write a blog post yesterday with a New York theme, but you have to go to The Greenists to find it.

2. I think I’m officially ready to move my blog to another host site and possibly even do a redesign. I am so incredibly sick of moderating spam comments that my head is likely to explode. In the haste to keep spam comments off my blog, I’ve accidentally rejected several comments from Modern Friends, which is contrary to the point.

Which means I need some suggestions from y’all along the lines of A. What blogging platform would you suggest (must do a better job of regulating spam than Blogger does) and why and B. Who would you suggest that could both move my entire blog from Blogger to a new platform and do a redesign.

I can’t say you’ll see any changes around here anytime soon because I’ve got a lot on my plate, but I would like to get the ball rolling BEFORE my head explodes, because I figure it will be easier that way.

  1. Another vote for WordPress from me too and i'd suggest finding someone's design you really like and seeing who did theirs because otherwise you'll get a whole heap of people with different ideas

  2. I'm with courtney – WordPress all the way. It has a great spam filter and is stupidly easy to move all your blogger posts over.

Plus you can change design every day of the week if you so desire.

  3. I'm going to WordPress and going to work with a designer to do so. I don't know Jack about moving any of my posts. I'll leave it to the experts.

  4. I'm with everyone else. I'm about ready to switch to WordPress. My hubby switched his blog from Blogger to WordPress and didn't have any problems in doing so.

  5. I host mine through Squarespace. I adore them, the setup was idiot proof (I am one), and the design is drag & drop.

I don't get many commenters, so it's easy for me to monitor, but I really like their measurement tools.

  6. I say WordPress. I use HostMonster for hosting.

Splendid Sparrow just did my redesign. I launched it tonight and I love it!

  7. The Greenists is on WordPress and I really like the interface. My personal blog is blogger and holy SPAM comments, Batman! Drives me insane!

  8. You are probably much more technologically intuitive than I am, but I just wanted to throw out there that I think wordpress is pretty confusing. I like the way it looks better than blogger, but to me it is a lot more difficult "behind the scenes."

  9. I'm adding another WordPress vote. I originally converted from Blogger too, and it was fairly easy. WordPress.com is free and doesn't require a host (like Blogger) but the designs are limited. (Or were the last time I set up a WP.com account about 2 years ago.) Also like blogger, you can buy a domain name and route your blog to that URL (blog.com instead of blog.wordpress.com).

My blogs are currently hosted with Network Solutions. But I'm really tired of paying a lot of money for really poor customer service, so I'm in the process of switching to GoDaddy. Their marketing is questionable, but customer service is always prompt and helpful and prices are lower. Both hosts made it very, very easy to set up a blog. Or 20.
