I’ve been dealing with a lot of what I like to call mental clutter lately. There’s always a deadline hanging over my head at work. There’s always a chore needing to be done. There’s always something to think about.
I’ve been blogging only lightly lately as I’ve needed to take a step back from a few things and get better control of what’s going on in my life or at least FEEL like I am getting better control of my life.
(I promise I’m not having a mental breakdown: I’m not freaking out, I’m only mildly stressed at the moment.)
After a particularly difficult day at work today, I found myself fiddling with the car radio on the way home as I always do when I’m in the car. I’m always switching stations to avoid commercials and bad music. But as I was listening today, even music I typically like was too much for me to bear.
So, I did something that turned out to be a brilliant move on my part: I turned it off.
The result was amazing. The quiet of the post-rush hour lull was better than music. It was soothing and calming. Even the sputter of a bad transmission on the car in front of me was pacifying.
Try it. You might be surprised how much you like it.

I’ve done that before too. It is nice to have time to listen to your thoughts.
It is important to sometimes just take a step back. I have taken up meditation after I started yoga a year ago and I always feel quite refreshed after both yoga and my nightly 10 minute meditation.
I miss my old yoga instructor who could put me to sleep with her meditation exercises.
