Cheese AND whine Posted on April 10, 20086 Comments

It never fails that I only get sick when I have something REALLY FRICKIN’ IMPORTANT to be taking care of. Like packing, doing laundry, buying a wedding gift and driving three hours to spend some time with my bff before official wedding stuff began to kick in.

As was the case this morning just moments after the Modern Beau left for work and I started to think about a plan of action for accomplishing all the aforementioned chores. My mind kept wandering instead to my head and my stomach. What is this pain and discomfort and why isn’t it going away? And eventually … NOT A MIGRAINE. ANYTHING BUT A MIGRAINE! P.S. Allie has a solution for headaches/migraines that you can bet I’m going to try … as soon as I can find someone to take me to the store.)

As it turned out, not only was the pain not going to go away, it was going to manifest itself in the form of throw up, several times over. And nothing I did to try to fix it worked. Water? No. Toast? Turns out wheat bread tastes kinda funny the second time around. Fresca? Blech. Shower? Couldn’t stand up for the whole thing. Actual medicine? Gag reflexes kicked in while swallowing and medicine ended up in toilet.

Being sick as a child used to rock. Stay at home and be waited on hand and foot by Modern Mom while watching game shows all afternoon? YES, PLEASE. Now, I have only me to take care of me. Not even Lucydog steps up to the plate — she just looks at me with her puppydog eyes and asks “why won’t you take me for a walk, Mom?” What she doesn’t know is my illness is delaying her trip to the Doggie Hotel.

Have I mentioned the MB has a roommate that isn’t me or Lucydog? He’s lived with the MB for the past few years in the downstairs guest suite, but he seems to have a problem remembering to pay MB rent. Probably because he’s too busy paying for the fancy plasma TV and Tivo. Why I bring this up now is this: The plasma TV, which is the only source of television in the living room, stopped working two weeks ago. “Oh, I guess I’ll get somebody out to fix that,” roommate says two weeks ago. After a week and a half of no TV, MB and I got sick of it, moved the plasma TV to the floor and moved our bedroom TV downstairs. So one issue is I can’t lay in bed and watch TV while I wallow in my illness.

The other reason I bring it up is this: I turned on the TV this morning, thinking a little HGTV might distract my brain long enough for me to heal myself. “Tivo cannot acquire signal.”

Which methinks means roommate didn’t pay the Tivo bill.

I want my mama. Incidentally, she was going to be going to the wedding too (therefore coming thru town and could have cared for me) until she got sick herself.

  1. So sorry you feel bad, hopefully gets better soon.

The roomie? Maybe needs to find a new place!

  2. That is an inexcusable mistake, I fear. I hate being sick, it’s one of my worst fears. And right now, I feel like crap, but not enough to go home early. Damnit.

  3. Oh no! Is the migraine making you puke, or are you sick on top of that, or some lovely combo?

I hope the Sinol works for you! Don’t let the intense (but momentary) pain it causes scare you. Maybe I’m a baby, but it was seriously disconcerting.

    FEEL BETTER!

  4. Ugh I’m sorry šŸ™ I’m sending you healthy vibes and hope you feel better soon!

  5. Oh, the roommate would be in SERIOUS TROUBLE. How are you supposed to watch the Price is Right in bed when you’re sick?!
