I had planned to write something profound for Earth Day, but so many others have already been more eloquent than I, so I’ll just leave it to them to inspire you:
Fake Plastic Fish celebrates Earth Day with pictures. So does Go Green Travel Green. Crunchy Chicken points out that you can’t buy sustainability from the store. The Good Human has the same idea. Allie’s Answers, who was the one to first pass along all these fantastic links, is green every day!
I will offer two things though.
1. The furry little creature to the left, you may recall, is The Lorax; he speaks for the trees. Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Conservation International, Random House and The Lorax are teaming up to save the trees. The Lorax is being reprinted with information about “The Lorax Project,” which launched today. Ten to 15% of profits from the book and green products that feature The Lorax’s image will be used for efforts to stop deforestation in Madagascar, Brazil and China.
I encourage you to follow The Lorax’s lead in informing the younger generation on the importance of saving the trees and Earth. The Lorax would thank you.
2. I know this gets said every Earth Day, but make Earth Day every day! Some people grumble about why devote only one day to recognizing the need to be green. I don’t have that problem since any Earth PR is a good thing. But maybe try a new green technique once a week — start unplugging your unused appliances this week. Next week take some bags with you to the grocery store when you shop for food. They say it takes 30 days to make a new habit stick, so keep that in mind.
I just got my panties in a twist over at a blog that I read sometimes. The lady called global warming “hooey” and she has 2 kids. I just don’t get why anyone would buy the line that living life the way we’ve been doing is going to keep going on without any intervention.
Oh, that gets my panties in a twist too. And even if you don’t believe in global warming — recycle, try not to be wasteful, be kind to the environment because it’s the right thing to do even if we aren’t in a state of crisis.
Sorry for the rant.
I love the Lorax! What a great project! And thanks for the link!
Happy Earth Day, a day late.
