I’m on a minor road trip for work, but I thought I’d take this opportunity at lunch to remind everyone of my musical request from last week. I plan to download all the songs this weekend and put together a new CD for my road trip to D.C. next weekend. I’ve gotten some great suggestions so far.
Let me take a bit of pressure off you: it doesn’t have to be the GREATEST song you know right now, just give me something that will move me — literally or figuratively.
Thanks again for your help in expanding The Modern Gal’s musical horizons.
Oh, and those of you who offered to make me a CD, I certainly won’t turn one away. 🙂
Lime Tree Arbour (Sometimes known as I Do Love Her So)- Nick Cave, from the album The Boatman’s Call.
One of of my favorites of many, many, many favorites by my all time favorite musician:
Telephone Call from Istanbul, Tom Waits. From Frank’s Wild Years.
Ballad of the Soldier’s Wife. Either the PJ Harvey or the Marianne Faithfull version will do.
Now you give me three.
I’ve been told I have poor taste in music, but something from this list should blow your skirt up.

I don’t know that he’s got anything super new out, but I LOVE Jeffrey Foucault. http://www.jeffreyfoucault.com/music.html
If you go to the CD Miles from the Lightning, Secretariat is one of my favorites, you can listen to it right there.
My current favorite song of all time is “Unless It’s Kicks” by Okkervil River.
Also – I am loving Lily Allen lately (“Shame For You,” “Oh My God,” etc).
And “Pumpkin Soup” by Kate Nash.
OH — and anything Chris Brown. Sorry, but I LOVE HIM. Had to throw him in there.
I thought this was going to be tough until I realized that I only have one album that was released in the past year (that’s right, I still buy CDs; how modern is that?)
I’m too busy catching up on what I’ve been missing the last few decades.
So how about “Bodysnatchers” by Radiohead, from In Rainbows.
(Looking at the above comments, my suggestion feels so uncool. I worry about such things.)
Oh wait, I probably didnt read this right. If the songs had to be released in the last year, then mine dont work. But then again, I stopped listening to new music a while ago because it is too hard to keep up with. So I say you should still count my songs. Because they are awesome.
i’m leaving another one (or two!)
you should download “what we need more of is science” by you-know-who. it’s very catchy. you can get it here: http://johnorama.com/songs/fun_pop/
you should also download “i feel it all” by feist. and “requiem for an OMM2” by of montreal. and “go shopping” by bryan van 3000.
i’ll stop now.
Radiohead is never uncool.
wait wait…you’ll be in DC?? You should come to the bloggy happy hour saturday night!! If you’re free that is! Email me and I’ll send you the info <3
