Poetry, in very short form

Poetry, in very short form Posted on June 12, 200816 Comments

The Webby Awards have been announced, and the best thing about them are the awards speeches. Normally I hate acceptance speeches, but these winners have to do their speeches in five words. A writing coach of mine once taught me there’s a lot of poetry and humor to be had in five-word stories. If you read this year’s acceptance speeches, you’ll see it’s true.

If you like five-word acceptance speeches and don’t already read Bossy’s blog, start checking her out on Tuesdays for Ten-Word Tuesdays. They’re often the highlight of my week.

I feel like it’s time for a social hour here at The Modern Gal blog. The Modern Gal soon will be headed for her primary summer vacation. Since she’s got it on the brain, she wants to hear all about your summer vacation plans … in eight words (The MG felt she should pick her own arbitrary number and not copy the Webbys or Bossy).

I’ll start:

Ten-hour drive, family reunion; This is vacation?

Now you.

  1. I’m supposed to go on vacation? I guess I’ll have to get on that. Sorry, was that supposed to be eight words?

First commenter and I’ve already screwed it up.

  2. Longtime reader, first-time poster. Love your blog.

I hope this is the outcome of my vacation, which begins a week from tomorrow:

Vegas: Clubs. Bottle service. Lost my undies again.

  3. I’m not thinking clearly enough to come up with something right now, but it did occur to me that I haven’t put you on my blogroll yet. If you have a good 6-word description of your blog, I’ll add it to the others.

  4. Mickey: Never learned how to color inside lines

Kate: Quite a trip! Glad to have you.

Tutugirl: I remember that time; don’t miss it.

Noodles: They’re not so bad; take me along.

Herman: You know my thoughts: SEC is best.

Allie: Lyme disease is no fun. Get well!

Angie: How many dress are you up to?

Emma: Place sounds lovely; can we come visit?

  5. My beau is on vacation right now and I am not, so here’s 8 words about that:

I miss him the most while drinking coffee.

  6. Jigsha: Home is where I want to be!

Bossy: I’m just honored you visited The Modern Gal

Alexa: Aruba boring? No way. Can I come?
