The Modern Dad has such specific tastes that he can be kind of hard to shop for come Father’s Day, birthday and Christmastime. But that seems to be the case for many fathers. They like what they like.
Pottery Barn had some pretty good gift ideas the other day that I thought I’d pass along. Granted, the PB is never cheap, so it’s probably a better idea to use these as ideas — and then go find something similar and way cheaper somewhere else.
My dad, ever the history buff and fan of yardwork, is getting a book on the Battle of Little Bighorn and a fancy rain gauge to replace his broken one. I think this is a good time to ask what everyone is getting their father this weekend (if you celebrate Father’s Day) so that we can share some good ideas on the person who might be the hardest to shop for.

I have my dad a book and then I’m going to keep searching for a little something extra. But for Mother’s Day, I got my mom a gas gift card for any Shell station. Not the most exciting gift, but if someone were to hand me a $50 card to use on Gas right now, I’d jump for joy.
This is the first father’s day where my father has not owned a bookstore. Finally, the day has come when I can buy him books as a present.
I just wait for my Mother to tell me what Dad wants since she doesn’t let him speak for himself. She’s kinda mean like that.
My FIL is getting a book of poetry about baseball written by my mentor and a book on astronomy that my husband loves, and probable some fair trade coffee.
Angie: You make a good point. Sometimes the most practical gift is the best.
Noelle: I’m guessing books are a big part of his life then?
Vanessa: My mother just commiserates with me in not knowing what to get my dad.
Allie: Those are some lovely gifts. It’s funny how we all are giving books, though I bet that’s not only indicative of what our fathers/FILs are like but also what we’re like!
