Sex and the Lunchroom

Sex and the Lunchroom Posted on September 18, 20088 Comments

Just like I was apprehensive about there being a Sex and the City movie made, I’m pretty sure I don’t like the idea of Candace Bushnell writing teen novels that take readers back to Carrie’s formative years in high school.

For one thing, if anyone’s read Bushnell’s Sex and the City book, you’ll realize that it was only very loosely related to the series and had a much darker tone than the path the series took. If the new books match the series more then it seems like Bushnell is pandering to the fans of the show. If the books conform to the original novel, then I imagine a number of the show’s fans will be disappointed.

I wish they would just leave well enough alone.

P.S. I wrote this post last night as I was watching a rerun of the La Douleur Exquise episode in Season 2 when Carrie and Big break up before Big moves to Paris. The scene when she gets mad at him at the end is so beautifully done.

  1. I am such a huge SATC fan, but I do not want to know about Carrie in high school. All we need are more books where teenagers have sex. *sigh*

  2. I agree, it’s going to be bad, but I sort of think it’s going to be geared more toward the Gossip Girl crowd than the original SATC fans.

  3. You know, I’ve always wanted to read the book, but when I looked for it ages ago I couldn’t find it at the library or the bookstore. I wonder if they’ve re-released it now.

That said, I don’t think I’m too interesting in reading the YA version.

  4. I’m not overly excited about this. How scandelous can she be in high school, pre-NY? Just leave it alone!

  5. that is my favorite scene in an satc episode ever. whoever thought that someone throwing a big mac would make me all teary.

  6. Geez, why don’t we all just ride the SATC money train until it completely wears out the characters. Yeah, totally not interested in the highschool Carrie. Part of the glamour of the show was being able to relate (sometimes) to the ups and downs of being single later in life, at an age where I think it’s harder to meet people and cocktails can reak havoc. Who needs more highschool drama?
