Jamie had a post earlier today talking about what annoys her with others’ blogging. It hit on something I’ve been thinking about asking all of you lately, and that’s frequency of blog posts.
Most fellow bloggers I know post when the mood hits them, which I understand because they’re keeping personal blogs. This usually means a bit less than once a day.
EXCEPT when NaBloPoMo rolls around, that is. I’ve noticed this month that I’m having an especially hard time keeping up with everyone’s blogs because of the extra posting everyone’s trying to do to keep up with the one-post-a-day standard. I’m not going to lie, my blogreader’s extra girth has driving me a little bit crazy until it occured to me, ‘You dum dum, you have a standard of twice daily on weekdays.’
I do have reasons for my twice-daily standard on weekdays. I try to post once a day to keep everyone coming back to The Modern Gal. During weekdays, I like to do one short post where I share something interesting I’ve found with you and a second more personal post. Granted, I’ve been a bit too busy lately to completely keep up with this schedule. I set my standard when I was reading only a handful of blogs and had some extra time on my hands. That’s changed quite a bit.
But I thought I’d ask you, Modern Friends, how many posts you prefer to keep up with. I don’t expect all of you to read every single post, because I hit so many topics, I doubt they’ll all interest you.
If you’ve got an opinion, take my poll below. Don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings one way or another (unless maybe you tell me you don’t like me). Are you fine with how things are done? Is it easier on you when the posts are a bit lighter?
I’m not saying I’m going to change, but it might make me think about how I post when I’m either really busy or have extra time on my hands.
I do actually like two posts from you a day. One is always a quick, fast skim the other had real content. But I am so overwhelmed and my head is so under water from the 300+ posts in my reader a day no in November.
you’re one of the few bloggers that i actually read all the posted items so i like your schedule 🙂
most people get a skim -especially on days like today when i’m super busy and my google reader is over flowing. But as long as it’s interesting and doesn’t feel forced keep your schedule 🙂
I didn’t vote because my only preference is that bloggers post when they have something to say. The “this is my requisite NaBloPoMo post” really drives me crazy. I try to post every day, because otherwise I might just stop completely. But you should do whatever makes your blog best. If the topic is interesting, I’ll stop by, and sometimes I’ll just click on your links like I did with the Thanksgiving post earlier.
I like two or sometimes more posts per day but in general life has been so crazy busy that the timing of NaBloPoMo has made it hard to keep up with the reader. Hopefully I find my rhythm soon.
Two posts are fine with me. When it gets to be one post: I woke up this morning. Two post: I’m eating a sandwich. Three post: omg there is traffic Then it’s out of hand.
As long as bloggers have something relevant to say, I’m more than happy to read!
im usually a one a day blogger, but if you are happy with two and you have stuff you want to say, i say post! : )
I don’t think it will hurt your feelings if I agree with your statement that they might not all interest me. It’s nice when you write a post about makeup or dresses and I can just ignore it and wait for the next one and not feel bad about it.
I’ve been a bit frazzled trying to keep up with NaBloPoMo myself, both with writing my own posts and keeping up with reading the others.
For me, I don’t mind having a lot of posts to read so long as they’re interesting and well-written. I don’t like it when someone posts something mundane just to have something up. I quite enjoy your writing, regardless of frequency.
(Great to see you last night! Let’s do it again as soon as your schedule calms down.)
I don’t use a reader and *gasp* actually click on blog URLs in my favorites. I like to think I put the extra effort in. Therefore, there are only about 10-15 blogs I regularly follow, which means I try to check in at least every two days or so. If new content is notposted in a week or more than I just drop the blog, unless there is notice that the writer may not be posting for a while.
That being said I say post as much as you want. I will still check in.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I guess I’ll just strive to keep it interesting, that seems to be the consensus 🙂
