The Modern Gal’s 2008 Election Drinking Game Posted on January 7, 20086 Comments

NOTE: If you’re here looking for a Nov. 4 Election Night drinking game, check out this post.

Not that we modern gals and guys need an excuse to drink, but election season provides us with so many good excuses that we might as well take advantage.

So, now that primary/caucus season is in full swing, I declare it time for us to formulate The Modern Gal’s 2008 Election Drinking Game.

Here’s a few rules to kick it off, but please contribute your own.

1. One drink for every time you hear a candidate say “change.”
2. One drink for every time you hear a candidate use the phrase “when I’m president”
3. One drink for each time a candidate says either “troop surge” or “troop drawdown.” Two drinks if they use both phrases in one sentence.
4. Two drinks for every time a candidate references young people or the next generation in some way.
5. Two drinks if a candidate mentions an ordinary American by name

  1. Let us never forget the infamous State of the Union Drinking Game. For all of you unfamiliar with such fun, you divide up nouns among friends (health care, social security, etc.) and drink when they’re referenced. One clever colleague thought it would be a good idea to drink on shots of blue ties. Perhaps the poor boy is still drunk?

  2. As a co-host and unofficial referee of the SOTU drinking game, those memories will never leave me. Ahh, such good times in Building 22. By the way, someone also opted to take on terrorism as a topic to drink on. Wow.

  3. i highly recommend you make it to dc for election night 2008. the bars feature red and blue beer (though in 2k6, capitol lounge ran out of blue) and people watch the returns like it’s the superbowl. pretty much awesome.
