The SEC: winners of 2007

The SEC: winners of 2007 Posted on January 10, 20082 Comments

I thought I’d let the national championship rest in peace a few days before sharing this:

Too soon?

OK, seriously. LSU won the national championship, and in this crazy season it’s probably appropriate that a team led by the crazy hat, Les Miles, would win. Did they deserve it? I do know that West Virginia, USC, Missouri et al looked hella good in their bowl games and have legitimate arguments for having wanted to play in the BCS champ. But, I’m not going to discuss the merits of an FBS playoff because it ain’t going to happen any time soon, if ever.

I will however name The Southeastern Conference as victors of the 2007 football season and pretty much all of football.

I have the following statistics, courtesy of SEC officials to back me up:
–LSU’s 2007 BCS National Championship is the SEC’s fourth in the 10 years of the BCS.
–The SEC is 11-4 all-time in BCS bowl games. The SEC has won four BCS bowl games in the last two seasons.
–The SEC’s seven bowl wins this season is an all-time high for any conference. SEC had six last season, which was the previous high.
–This season, the SEC posted a 47-10 record against non-conference foes (.825 percent), which is the highest percentage of all FBS conferences.
–The SEC now has 184 bowl wins in its history, which is tops in FBS.

The SEC is putting Florida on probation for the whooping they took from Michigan, which is in direct violation of the SEC’s rules of football play. Arkansas is forgiven as they clearly have had a lot on their plate lately.

UPDATE: Before anyone tries the “SEC doesn’t play anyone good out of conference” argument, I submit this evidence to the contrary.

  1. Dear Ohio State,

Thanks AGAIN for rolling over in the national championship game and making the rest of the BigTen embarrassed to be associated with your football program. Were you trying to make a point with all of your personal fouls? Now we have the next 200 or so days to be subjected to SEC snobbery. This was the one night I could bring myself to root for the Buckeyes, and now I just have more reason for disgust and disdain.

So, here’s to you, Ohio State, and thanks for doing us proud.

    Sincerely,
    The rest of the BigTen
