From Modern K at This is the story of a girl … a complicated girl

I am a huge fan of baseball and from reading MG’s blogs she is also a big baseball fan. I think it has to do with our Midwest upbringing. Maybe..

Allow me to introduce myself, My name is K a self-confessed MG reader. I volunteered to help MG as a guest blogger for my chance to let all of MG’s readers know who the best team in baseball is.. THE CHICAGO CUBS. Well I guess that is my personal opinion rather than a fact. I thought since MG is a big Card fan and I myself am a big Cub fan I would spout out a little about their well known rivalry.

The Cardinal Cubs rivalry is also known as the I-55 series deriving its name from the expressway connecting the two cities. I am unsure if those who live in St. Louis call interstates “expressways” but the majority of Chicago does.

The geographical ramifications of the rivalry begin is Springfield, IL which is located right on top of the fault line for the Cubs and Cardinal’s fan base: You can walk into a bar and you’re likely to see a redbird neon sign as much as a Cubbie logo on the wall.

What sweetened the rivalry? The Sosa vs. McGuire home run slugging contest in 1998 where McGuire did beat Sosa. The home run race saved baseball, Sosa and McQuire became friends, etc. They were driven by the pursuit of personal glory down that happy stretch of baseball, but imagine if they only wanted to hit more than the other. It would have been fantastic; nothing fuels rage and competition like sterorids!

I’m not going to lie the Cardinals are beating our ass in World Series championships with the Cards owning up to 10 and the Cubs owning their 2. This is the year for the Cubbies! When the Cubs do with the championship we will still be down by 7. I’m such an optimist as most of Cubs fans are rather have to be. There is no choice in the matter.

July 4th is the next Cards vs Cubs game – Who will you be cheering for?

While I am on the subject of baseball.. have you checked out Alyssa Milano’s Touch collection for MLB? I’m the proud owner of a couple of girly baseball pieces!
