The Dreaded Green Question: Why?

The Dreaded Green Question: Why? Posted on May 19, 20083 Comments

From Modern Jay:

So, as all regular Modern Gal readers know, being green is about more than just being cool. But here’s the thing: we know that being green is important, but do we really know why? Nothing sets a modern gal or guy apart like knowing what you’re talking about. But how do you get educated? And how do you help spread the word?

There’s nothing like some good old one-stop shopping. The Climate Project is a network of people who are trained to give a simple, easy-to-understand, and scientifically accurate presentation on climate change. In fact, it’s the presentation Al Gore developed that was the basis for An Inconvenient Truth. Why take the time to tell you about it? Well, I’m one of the presenters.

Here’s how it works: You make a request at the TCP Web site, they match you up with a presenter nearby, you set up a date and time, and you get a free presentation from someone trained to give it. There are 1,000 of us the U.S. alone. (Of course, if you’re in the eastern third of Tennessee, you can also just ask the MG herself for my contact information. Or comment on this post, for that matter!)

And hey, get creative… I’ve done presentations for big groups and organizations, but some of the best ones I’ve done have been for green-themed house parties and low-key get togethers. There’s no audience too big or too small for us. And did I mention it’s free?

It’s a great way to cut through the back-and-forth and get a handle on the facts of what’s happening with climate change — without drowning in technical papers and jargon. I mean, come on… What more could a modern guy or gal want?

  1. Fabulous! I’d love a presentation like that! I do wish I lived in TN for one from Modern Gal though! Well, truthfully that would be the only reason I would want to live there!

  2. Vanessa: I’m going to have Modern Jay do a presentation at the Knoxville Quirkyalone party, whenever that ends up happening! You’ll have to come by for that.
