A few weeks ago, I mentioned this as a sign that the end of the world was nearing.
Let’s talk about another one: The Chicago Cubs.
Sure, the Cubs have had good starts to their seasons before, but as a Cardinals fan, I could always take heart in the fact that they would go belly-up by June.
Well, it’s June. Let’s check the headlines:
- Chicago has built the best record in the majors
- Soriano, DeRosa homer as Cubs win 9th straight
- The Cubs entered June with the best record in baseball for the first time since 1908, when they last won a World Series
This is all very, very, VERY bad. It messes with the natural order of things, causing famine, pestilence and this. And now, Cubs fans are all:

Yeah, it’s bad enough that the Red Sox are winners. If the Cubs win it all, we’re doomed. I’m all for the underdog, but we need our hapless losers in sports, and the Cubbies are all we have left.
