The things they hung on their wall

The things they hung on their wall Posted on August 6, 200810 Comments

I unpacked my final box two weeks ago, where I found the only damaged item from the entire move: the glass of my diploma frame was cracked in two. This is especially tragic as it’s the diploma that was framed by my uncle, a professional framer, as a graduation gift. But it’s fixable and if that’s the only thing of value that made it unscathed, then I guess the movers did a good job.

I’ve also managed to paint my living room something much more bearable and livable than white and hang a few things on the walls. I mentioned a few weeks ago wanting to try out a cheap decorating tip I found on Domino’s website. I promised a few of y’all photos of the result, so here they are along with a few other things found in my living room.

The wall color is in the Eddie Bauer line of Valspar paint and it’s called Rope, and while that’s completely unromantic sounding it is beautiful when it’s hit by the light that streams through the full wall of windows across from the couch.

This is where the magic happens. Also: camera is crooked, not couch and wall art.

The paper I chose for the wall is from Paper Source. It’s printed on recycled paper bags and was only $3 a sheet. The frames were from Target and were about $15 a piece, I think.

It took me forever to convince myself that it would be OK to blend a bluish color with deep reddish tones but the dark wood furniture I have makes it work.

The two letterpress prints are actually just greeting cards I snagged from my local letterpress shop, Yee Haw Industries. In fact, the one with the lovebirds is the card I bought during my Feb. 29 escapade. Yee Haw made the mats too and I just had the frames sitting around.

The smaller one is a letter that has absolutely nothing to do with anything. I swear.

I’ve never had a wall clock in my living room, instead opting to squint at the VCR and hope that A. It was set properly or B. It was set at all. After I had everything set up in this living room, the squinting couldn’t even tell me what time it was, so I broke down and bought this clock from Target for $30, and I love it a hundred times more than I could love a clock that cost ten times as much.
The engraved tin switchplate came from a local store called Bliss. It doesn’t match a damn thing in the room, but I love it just the same.

  2. Everything looks great! I love the colors.

Also, I got my CD and I can’t wait to listen to it!

  3. So nice! I am totally going to frame a cool piece of paper now. But before that I’m going to have to buy a wall where I can put it.

  4. I love the idea of framing paper! I need some new art around here, too!

We’ve lived in our house for over a year, and still haven’t unpacked all the boxes. Congrats on finishing!
