Five current obsessions

Five current obsessions Posted on September 13, 20086 Comments

Miss TutuGirl tagged me for a meme the other day that looks fun, so here I go. I shall list five of my current obsessions

1. My new running routine and new running shoes. I’ve tried to get into running before and absolutely hated it every time. I always got frustrated and worn out and gave up very quickly. Apparently the key is to start at as basic of a level as you can, ie. walking, and then slowly build. I’ve been amazed at how much endurance I’ve been able to build and thrilled about how the extra exercise is getting me to my weight loss goal.

2. My Weight Watchers meetings. I was a wee bit dubious when I signed up for WW about going to the meetings. The leader was REALLY cheerleadery, and I was certain that was going to get on my nerves. It’s been quite the opposite though. I LOVE going to meetings. I love talking with other people who have had the same struggles as I with my weight and body image. We laugh and joke and celebrate one another’s success. It’s a nice balance in the middle of the work day which isn’t always so supportive.

3. The J. Crew clearance rack. In Nashville I lived far enough away from the J. Crew store that I didn’t get to visit it much, so my J. Crew experience was mostly limited to the catalog and online, where everything looks beautiful but costs an arm and a leg (sure the website has great deals but they’re usually final sale only and you never know what size you’re going to need.) Now I can walk to the J. Crew store and when I do, I ignore the rest of the store and head straight for the clearance rack. I’ve found some amazing stuff on clearance for Target-like prices and I get to try it all on too!

4. This ham/hummus pita creation I came up with the other day. I had a multigrain pita, deli ham, red pepper hummus, a tomato and feta cheese. Spread a little bit of hummus on the toasted pita, fold little bits of the ham on top, place one slice of tomato on each quarter of the pita and sprinkle feta on top. It’s incredible and it’s very filling.

5. The Moon and Sixpence. My dad lent me his old copy of this Somerset Maugham fictional account of the life of artist Paul Gaugin. Sounds like a strange concept, but Gaugin had a fascinating story. He lived a comfortable life as a stockbroker in Copenhagen when he decided that he had to spend the rest of his life painting. He left his family penniless and moved to Paris to pursue his passion. I’ve had a hard time putting it down.

Ok, I’m supposed to tag two others to do this meme so Nerdy One and Vanessa you’re up because you both have cool taste.

  1. Moon and Sixpence is still one if my favorites! Thanks for making me think of it. I have it on my shelf, and I may read it on this rainy weekender! πŸ™‚

  2. Yay….will do as soon as I get time to write again. This weekend has really set me back. I had a great time and glad I got to see you and the beau.

  3. Mmmm. J Crew. I have to exercise some serious self-restraint every time I get a catalog or see a store. But I have found some awesome stuff on the clearance rack, like you.

  4. I joined a new gym and I’m hooked. I took a class on Saturday morning that ripped my arms off. I’m still stretching to help my sore little arms.

  5. I’m right there with you on the J. Crew clearance rack — I was browsing through one yesterday myself! And, I also have a J. Crew outlet store down the road. Talk about finding great bargains πŸ™‚
