So the trend du jour that I have been seeing EVERYWHERE in the past couple of weeks is the boyfriend cardigan. Gap has them. Target has them. Anthropologie has them. In fact, they appear to be so popular right now that I’m having a very hard time finding my preferred style of basic fitted cardigan that hits at the waist.
Modern gals, what do you think of this style? I had one five or six years ago when they were last popular and it’s actually still hanging in my closet. It was comfortable and the perfect balance between keeping warm but not getting too warm this time of the year.
But now as I look at these cardigans hanging in stores everywhere, I’m having a hard time thinking they’re flattering on anyone. What do you think? (I’m not going to judge you one way or the other).
I think if you pair it with the right pants and top under it, plus a cute belt or necklace, it’ll look nice. I was in Ann Taylor Loft yesterday and saw a few. Like you, I had a couple last time they were trendy, but my personal style has changed since then. I prefer the fitted cardigans that hit at your waist. If I want to feel more casual I’ll wear a sweatshirt.
I don’t really like them, I guess they just remind me of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood and I don’t really consider him cute or trendy. I have a really had time finding a classic full length sleeve that hits at the waist that doesn’t cost $150.
I’m very torn about this because it’s cute but I know it won’t work for me and honestly the lack of buttons or zipper confuses me. Some girls I know can rock it but few can fully pull it off.
It looks comfortable, but I’m not crazy about it. Anything that is not fitted pretty much makes me look like a blob, but I can see how it could be cute on someone tall and slim.
I’m with shazzie. Add a thick belt. Maybe something even with a cool clasp and leave it open.
Me no likey… I have hips and boobs and this look makes me look like they merge into one another – and if I wear it open it looks like I bought it a size too big… I’ll stick the the girly cardi!
Yeah, I don’t have much going on in the boob department, but I definitely have hips. I love the way they look on stick figures, but not the way they look on me. I am wondering if the less chunky style of these would be a bit more flattering, but I don’t know if my ego is ready to test that theory in the fitting room.
