There were so many useful comments on this post that I wanted to share them again for everyone else to see. The crux of my dilemma is that I’ve lost enough weight that I’ve dropped a size in pants, but I hope to lose enough weight in the next month or two that I can drop one more size. I’m short, so most of my pants need hemming, but I didn’t want to spend the money.
I did end up finding two very cheap pairs at Old Navy that were short enough that they’ll get me by (and I had a coupon for 15% off). But had that not worked, I would have definitely tried some of these options:
- Mel has the same height issue as I do, and she suggested just using safety pins or making a faux hem using a quick X-stitch or two.
- Tutu Girl suggested selling my old pants at a consignment shop (or perhaps eBay) to make a little bit of cash to spend on some new pants.
- Emily suggested using hem tape — which you should be able to find at any craft store — which allows you to easily rehem a pair of pants as many times as you need.
- And several others suggested their favorite stores to find cheap pants: Target, Ann Taylor and Old Navy. I’ll go ahead and throw Gap in there too.
I’m short too and the hem tape works well. I’ve even used black duct tape in a pinch with the added bonus that you can wash it.
