Here’s where you can stick it Posted on April 9, 20095 Comments

There was a dive bar I frequented when I lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., that had an extensive menu of food served on a stick. The menu had other things like club sandwiches and mozzarella sticks, but whenever you tried to order those things, they were always unavailable. What was available? Chicken on a stick.

In my recent absence I missed the fact that March 28 was ‘National Something on a Stick Day.’** Hungry Girl got to work in the kitchen and came up with several stick-stuffed recipes: chicken on a stick, pizza on a stick and a pig in a blanket on a stick.

**Really, I don’t know who is responsible for declaring these things. Is there a commission somewhere that churns through the calendar, deciding that it’s national whatever-whatever day? If that’s the case, I’m hoping for a National Modern Gal Day.

  1. Did you ever go to the dive The Stone Lion in Chatty when it was open? If you did, you probably saw me there playing darts and didn’t know it.

  2. Yes! I totally hung at the Stone Lion, though the dive bar in question was Lamar’s on MLK. Weird. We probably crossed paths a number of times and never knew it!

  3. everything tastes better on a stick. I have yet to try a fried pickle on a stick but Im sure it will be heaven on earth once I get my hand on one.

  4. I was wondering who declares these things myself! Is there a calendar to download or some sort of list I should be on?
