What the Mother?

What the Mother? Posted on May 5, 20093 Comments

SPOILER ALERT. I will do my best to talk vaguely, but I’m going to have to reveal some important details.

Ok, who watches How I Met Your Mother? What did you think about last night’s episode? The internets surely are buzzing about it.

Before we touch on the ending, I have to say I enjoyed the episode, especially with the callbacks to the intervention stuff. I nearly fell off the couch when Marshall had a Venn Diagram of the song ‘Cecilia.’

Now, let’s get one thing straght. I am absolutely, 100 percent convinced Stella is not the Mother, as are the HIMYMites over at Have You Met Ted? There was the clue a while back with an alternate reality with Stella as the Mother and the kids are blonde? We know that the kids, in fact, are not blonde.

My initial reaction at seeing Stella was WTF?? I wasn’t a fan of hers from the get-go, and I was super glad to see her run back to leave Ted at the alter (I know, I’m a heartless shrew). But, I think I can be OK with her if she’s the one to introduce Ted to the Mother.

I used to be in the camp of people who didn’t want to find out who the Mother was until the series was ending, but I’m starting to have a change of heart now that I feel the Mother is so close. I have a feeling they’re going to give us a major Mother tease at the very end of the season and then leave us hanging all summer without telling us who she is, and that is going to DRIVE ME CRAZY. Which is what they want, I’m sure. I think HIMYM has established itself enough as a solid comedy that it doesn’t need the Mother gimmick to keep going much longer, but who knows.

  1. I was devastated to see Stella come back. I too am not a fan of her. Please please please don’t let her be the mother. I might cry, and not in a good way.

  2. I love Sarah Chalke, but I don’t feel like Stella/Ted work. I think she’s going to somehow lead Ted to the Mother, but maybe that’s just what I’m hoping for.

I loved the Cecilia scene too. Marshall is way too cute.

  3. Marshall’s charts slayed me. I loved the “Cecilia” one! And the pie chart abut his favorite bars in tandem with the bar chart about his favorite pies.

I don’t think Stella is the mother, but I think she leads Ted to her. She was at that St. Patrick’s Day party where he got the umbrella. I think she is the instrument that brings Ted to his gal.
