A Rocktoberfest primer

A Rocktoberfest primer Posted on October 1, 200910 Comments

Once upon a time, in a year not so far away … ok, last year … a bunch of bloggers in the blogosphere were having a really sucky September. Sucktember, if you will. In an effort to flip a metaphorical finger to Sucktember, those bloggers banded together and pledged to rock the socks off October and thus, Roctoberfest was born.

There isn’t any specific guideline to celebrating Rocktoberfest other than to approach Rocktober with a very carpe-diem attitude. Harness the beauty of the changing leaves, the crispness of the cooling air and the healing powers of the bright sun and channel them into an attitude of kicking ass and taking names.

I like to celebrate Rocktober by trying new things. Last year it was new music. This year I’ll try something old: blogging with some regularity. I just looked at my archives and realized I’d posted a total 16 times in the past two months. How incredibly lame. Can you believe there was an actual month (May ’08) where I posted 52 times in a single month? Crazy. I wouldn’t expect 52 posts this month, but I’m going to at least aim for 30.

I’m also trying to get back into the regular workout swing of things. I’m not going to set a ‘this many days a week’ goal, because I know that’s just asking for failure, but I’m not allowing myself excuses when I have the time to run/bike/swim/dance/etc.

So, who’s in for Rocktoberfest 2009? What’s your Rocktoberfest pledge?

  1. Happy Rocktober! I did have a Sucktember this year, so I've got plenty of good stuff planned for Rocktober: Birthday, road trip, getting out of Wyoming, Hitchcock movies, and lots of candy corn. Your Rocktober pledges are much healthier than mine.

  2. Rocktober is so full of awesome things, starting with my birthday on Saturday! I am all about trying new seasonal recipes this month, doing as much painting and photography as time allows, and enjoying my Sundays with Dogfish Punkin Ale and football. Cheers!

  3. I guess my Rocktoberfest pledge will be to, like you, update more frequently. It baffles me that I managed to blog more throughout my recent vacation than I have when I've been home. And I also need to write more in general. Nobody's going to finish my book but ME. 🙂

  4. Wow I do need a Rocktoberfest pledge. Hmmm, maybe i need to try and break from my routine and do new stuff. Something like that to get me out of my rut.

  5. Yeah Rocktoberfest! I'm going to tag along with the More Updates Pledge. I really want to Rock the Blog in Rocktober.

  6. my rocktoberfest is to send at least one email a day to a friend or family member just saying hi and seeing how they're doing.

I lost touch with everyone with the craziness (in a mostly good way in september) so i'm trying to get back in the loop with all my pals 🙂 Also, I'd love to have all my thank you notes done by the end of october 🙂

  7. Two Rocktober pledges from me this year:

    1) I just joined a gym, which I have never done and I always give up on fitness routines, but I WILL NOT THIS TIME.

    2) New blogs/websites: redoing Kate's Adventures to make it anonymous and finally creating my professional name.com site! I own all my domains…I should finally put something on them!

  8. Shocker that for the most part, "Sucktember" was far from sucky… that is, except for my career.

I'm taking October by the balls, rocking out some opportunities for some writing, PR & potential promo work. Gimme your best set of bull horns, people! Now, Rock-out-Rocktober!

  9. Wow, you are an inspiration! Your goal is 30 posts? I was just patting myself on the back for having 10 last month!
