Live free or iPod

Live free or iPod Posted on November 16, 20073 Comments

An NYU journalism professor recently polled students on what it would take for them to give up their right to vote in the next presidential election. Two-thirds said they’d do it for a full ride.

More importantly, one in five said they’d do it for an iPod touch.

Now, the Modern Gal cherishes her right to vote and takes it seriously by voting in every election from presidential all the way down to the municipal primary.

But it IS an iTouch, an iPhone without the annoyance of AT&T service. And it’s not like I know whom to vote for in this mind-boggling pool of candidates.

Is the Modern Gal out of line?

  1. Hmm interesting. So I’d find someone here who was planning on voting for the opposite candidate…and convince them not to vote and get an Itouch too. And a million dollars to never vote again? Maybe I’m a bad American but I could really use a million dollars. KG

  2. I always thought I was a good American until I couldn’t convince myself that I wouldn’t take the iPod or $1 million.

  3. I think the key is in the next election. I wouldn’t give it up forever, but — how sad is this thought? I think about the amount of influence I could have over the next election with a million bucks, and think the trade off could be worth it. A million bucks means far more political influence than one vote.
