It’s about that time

It’s about that time Posted on May 28, 200814 Comments

I bought my Sex and the City tickets today, which seemed a bit late considering the to-do about the movie premier started more than a week ago. And the sad thing is, it took some urging from modern Angie E. (who’s already landed a sneek peak showing and therefore way cooler than the rest of us) to buy them today.

What was the hold up? I don’t know. Perhaps it was the fear of opening up Fandango only to find the tickets sold out for the entire weekend. Perhaps it was that I really wasn’t sure who to see it with, considering my favorite SATC-watching partners are located in Atlanta, Chicago and Alabama. I suspect it was mostly because nearly five months after writing this post, I’m still more than a little apprehensive about the fact that SATC has been made into a movie.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m as big of a SATC fan as you are and perhaps bigger. I watched most of the show when it originally aired. I own all the seasons minus Season 2. I watched the entire series the first time it cycled on TBS. Whenever a re-run coincides with me being in front of the TV, it’s on.
Anyway, I now hold two tickets to the 10 p.m. showing on Friday night. I can’t do tomorrow because I have a birthday dinner to attend and I turn into a pumpkin at midnight. The Modern Beau has graciously volunteered to go with me, because secretly he has a deep-down affection for SATC (**see Google conversation below). I’m pretty sure he watches the reruns even when I’m not at home.

Because it’s too late for me to rewatch the whole freakin’ series as I know some modern gals are trying to do, I shall prepare for the coming show by offering one SATC post a day here at The Modern Gal until I run out of things to say. I realize I should have been doing this all week. Insert aforementioned excuses here.

Here’s the very important part: Everyone tell me when you’re planning on seeing the show so I have an idea of when it’s appropriate to discuss here at The Modern Gal. I don’t want to be spoiling the show for anyone! I’m also interested in hearing what you’re doing to prepare for/celebrate the movie!

**Google Chat, Wednesday afternoon
The MG: i just bought two tickets to sex and the city for friday night. you can either go with me or not. you don’t have to
The MB: I would love to go to Sex in the City with you
The MG: don’t feel as if i’m forcing you to go. i’m merely providing you with an opportunity to go if you should so want to see the movie. if you go i don’t want to hear any “The Modern Gal made me go” afterwards
The MB: no way. I’ll say I wish I bought the tickets me:
The MG: yeah, but you have to say it like you mean it
The MB: of course
The MG:: are you feeling any pressure whatsoever to go?
The MB: no, not at all. just thankfulness
The MB: you’re mocking me. i’m going to offer the ticket to someone else
The MG: no hun

  1. I love that conversation. My hubby won’t go with me at all! He said he’d rather stick hot pokers in his eyes.

  2. I want to go see this movie! Also, hope you don’t mind that I linked you today.

  3. i saw the movie last night in an advanced screening and it is taking every ounce of control not to talk to my friends about it till they see it.

thats the one bad part about seeing it before everyone else!

  4. Fishing Around: I bet it will trickle over your way before you know it.

Sarah: That was more the response I was expecting.

Vanessa: Go. And I’m flattered you linked to me!

Alexa: I don’t know how you do it. This is why I figure I have to see it asap … so I don’t have to hold anyone up from talking about it around me.

Emma: That was just the kind of public mockery I was going for with him. But at the same time, I don’t want to scare him out of watching it.

  5. I’m seeing it with some girlfriends on Friday night around 10 or so. I’m sad we can’t celebrate together! MG can attest that I used to rent SATC discs from Blockbuster and spend an entire day watching the show.

Oh, and the boyfriend flat out refused to go see it, even though I will go see pretty much anything with him. Harumph.

  6. Wow- that’s very cool of the MB.

Most of the chick flicks I’ve watched lately have been alone.

(p.s. speaking of chick flicks, if anyone is mulling on seeing “Made of Honor,” it’s definitely a rental. Not worth the theater costs.

  7. Sunday is the only time I can go. I haven’t gotten tickets yet, but I don’t think a single show has ever sold out at my local theatre.

  8. I’m a lucky modern guy, as my modern gal is not such a fan of SATC. I object to it purely on the grounds of ENYG: Excessive New York Glorification.

Also, CB: I knew I liked him for some reason.

  9. Ha ha ha… I would have to drag Chris to see SATC. That is, if I were interested in seeing it. Good job getting him to be so thankful!

  10. I bought my ticket last weekend haha!

I’m going to see it Friday night around 7.

I swear I’m avoiding the blogging world like a hawk tomorrow. I’m only updating, no reading. I don’t want to see ANY spoilers.

  11. Not only could I not get Mr. Answers to go, I would get severely mocked for going. I’m waiting for DVD. I can watch it while he’s at work.

  12. CB: I’m not sure seeing it with the MB was the best idea.

Jigsha: Will add Made of Honor to my Netflix list.

Noelle: I was surprised that my own theater wasn’t sold out for opening night.

Jay: There is that. Better excessive NY glorification than excessive Knoxville glorification.

Jenn: I hope you’re back now.

Allie: That is so unfortunate. You should sneak out of the house one day while he’s at work. Editing can be put off one day!
