I have a sense that a number of my Modern Friends are big Muppets fans, and for very good reason. Muppets are AWESOME.
But sadly, not all the awesome Muppets get their due. Topless Robot recognizes the eight most underrated Muppets. There are some great ones on this list, including my favorite: the Yip-Yip Martian Monsters.
I’d also say the Honkers were underrated. I had a Honker Bike Bell as a kid. It had a Honker face, and you hit the nose for it to ring. It was awesome.
While we’re on the topic of Muppets and because Christmas is drawing ever near, if anyone wants to get The Modern Gal a really cool gift, consider making her her own MG-look-a-like Muppet at the Muppet Whatnot Workshop at FAO Schwarz. Talk about an underrated muppet.
Not necessarily an overlooked Muppet – but I always liked it when Jim Henson himself (and usually something reminiscent of a jug band) played witty songs. This is my favorite:

I adore the Yip Yip Martians and break out in my own “yip yip” whenever I have tried to describe them to people.
